Madalena Market is situated at 270 Real da Torre St, with its construction beginning on 6 February 1925. Inaugurated on 19 October that same year, by Governor Sérgio Loreto, it was a meeting point for market sellers who dealt with fruit and vegetables.

The plantation was situated where today the Praça João Alfredo (João Alfredo Square) is located. The plantation manor, where the owners lived, was known for a long time as the Sobrado Grande da Madalena (Madalena Plantation Manor).

One of the most traditional mixed carnival groups in Recife, Madeira do Rosarinha, was created by Joaquim de França and a group of dissidents, on September 7, 1926, due to differences with the management of their old group Inocentes do Rosarinho.

Thirty-one years after the creation of the Odontology School, Dr. Nelson founded, on May 22, 1944, in Recife, the Magitot Hospital, totally dedicated to Odontology, the first of its kind in South America.

The tower, built in an eastern (Tunisian) style, was thus named for its resemblance to a fortification on the Crimean peninsula, which functioned as the defence centre of Sevastopol in 1855. In this sense, it should be clarified that the Crimean war was fought in the 19th century (from 1854 to 1855)
