The Giant Reveler Dolls of Pernambuco, present in the carnival of Pernambuco since 1919, had a “demographic increase” from the 1980s.

“‘papa-angu’ was born from a game played by the sugarcane factor owners’ relatives who went out masked and badly dressed to visit friends at the Shrovetide parties – the old carnival of the 18th century – and ate ‘angu’ (polenta), a traditional food from the Northeast Pernambuco countryside.
