Bom Jesus (Good Jesus) Sugarcane Factory

Situated in the north of the Cabo municipality, on the left bank of the Gurjaú River, it was founded in 1895 by Colonel Octaviano de Souza.

Bulhões Sugarcane Factory

In 1929 it had 27km of railway that connected to the Great Western line, four locomotives and 44 wagons (from 8 to 10 tonnes). It had the capacity to process 400 tonnes of sugarcane and manufacture 3,000 litres of ethanol in 22 hours.

Catende Sugarcane Factory

Founded in 1890, with the name Correia da Silva factory, in honour of the State’s vice-governor at the time, it was originally built by the Englishman Carlos Sinden and his father-in-law Felipe Paes de Oliveira. This name, however, was never recognised, and the factory was always called ‘Catende’.

Central Barreiros Sugarcane Factory

Located in the south of the municipality of Barreiros, it was founded between 1885 and 1890 with the name ‘Carassu’ by João Carlos de Mendonça Vasconcelos and João Paulo Moreira Temporal. Its milling capacity was twenty thousand tonnes of crushed sugarcane per harvest.

Central Olho D'água (Water Eye) Sugarcane Factory

Located in the municipality of Camutanga, it was founded in 1928 at the site of the former banguê-soil plantation Olho D'Água, by Arthur Tavares de Melo, his father-in-law Samuel Hardman and his brother-in-law, the agriculturist José Hardman Cavalcanti.
