Inaugurated on 9 November 1930, with a marching band and the then-State interventor, Carlos de Lima Cavalcanti, Casa Amarela Market is located on Padre Lemos St (1930 Arraial Rd), in an constructed area originally of 817m2.

The inauguration of the House of Culture took place on April 14, 1976. Today, the site is a hub of regional culture and one of the city’s mandatories tourist spots. Its old cells are occupied by craft shops, a bookstore and coffee shops.

The Casa Forte (Strong House) sugarcane plantation, the originof the current neighbourhood, was created in the mid-16th Century by Diogo Gonçalves, from part of the land that was given to him by the owner of the Pernambuco Captaincy, Duarte Coelho.

The expression Casa Forte [Strong House] comes from the conflict that occurred on 17 August 1645 between Pernambuco and the Dutch. Casa Forte was the name of the historical plantation belonging to Anna Paes, a well-respected 17th-century socialite who was notable for her liberal views and personal.

The neighbourhood of Caxangá originally was a settlement founded by Canon Francisco Pereira Lopes at the end of the 18th Century.
