The creation of the Aeroclube de Pernambuco (Pernambuco Flying Club) dates back to the first decades of the 20th century

The idea for the construction of a new building for the provincial governors of Pernambuco, on the site of the former Fribourg Palace built by Maurice of Nassau, arose in the time of Governor José César de Menezes, in 1786.

In the government of Alexandre José Barbosa Lima, through a Decree from January 1st, 1893, it was renamed to Instituto Benjamin Constant, when of Gymnasium was merged with the Ecole Normale, the boarding school was abolished and several scientific and professional courses were added.

The Pernambuco Institute of Education (IEP) is located between Avenida Mário Melo and Parque 13 de Maio, in the neighbourhood of Santo Amaro, and was set up as an Integrated Centre through State Decree nº 2,631 on 26 October 1972, which was based on Federal Law No. 5,692 of Guidelines and Bases for

Pernambuco Magna Day–6 March, the day of the Pernambuco Revolution in 1817 – was established on the initiative of the Pernambuco Legislative Assembly through Law No. 13,386 on 24 December 2007.
