Francisco do Nascimento Filho, better known as Master Nascimento do Passo or simply Nascimento do Passo, was born on 28 December 1936 in the municipality of Benjamin Constant, Amazonas. He arrived in Recife in 1949, hidden in the basement of the ship Admiral Alexandrino.

The first cinema in Recife was the Pathé, located at 45 Nova St (formerly Barão da Vitória), opening on 27 July 1909. The second  Royal, also situated at 47 Nova St, belonging to the firm Ramos & Co.

Inaugurated on 18 November 1872, the Olinda Lighthouse is the second oldest in Pernambuco. At that time, situated in the Fort of São Francisco de Olinda, it had a forged iron tower, measured 12.5 metres in height, and its light was visible for 12 nautical miles.

During Holy Week, on  Fazenda Nova in Nova Jerusalém, in the municipal district of Brejo da Madre de Deus in the Pernambuco countryside (180 km from Recife), a spectacle is presented about the Passion of Christ, which today is one of the greatest tourist attractions in the state.

The typical cuisine of Pernambuco was created in the Indian villages, in the manor houses and slave quarters of sugarcane plantations, in the kitchens of monasteries, in the yards of Xangô and on the shoreline.
