The public market in Salvador, Bahia, known as Mercado Modelo had its building finished in late 1912. It was a rectangular building, made up of marquees. An imported metallic structure, with a roof, built with superimposed tiles, so as to allow good natural ventilation and illumination.
Built at the end of the 17th and beginning of the 18th centuries, probably around 1693, The Ribeira Market is located on Rua Bernardo Vieira de Melo, in the upper part of the city of Olinda, Pernambuco. It operated as a former meat, flour, fish and slave market.
It was designed by the engineer of the Recife Municipal Chamber, J. Louis Lieuthier, in 1871, who was inspired by the Grenelle Market in Paris, and it was built by the French engineer Louis Léger Vauthier, who was also responsible for the construction of Santa Isabel Theatre.
