In 1630, at the southern end of Rua Nova, in Olinda, the Mercy Hospital and its church were functioning. But with the great fire of 1631 caused by the Dutch, the buildings were in ruins, and the brothers of Mercy retired to Arraial do Bom Jesus.
The story of Hospital Pedro II begins in the period from 1802 to 1804, when Francisco de Souza Rego acquired two buildings on Nova St, in what was then called Vila do Recife, and in them founded the Hospital dos Pobres da Ribeira.
Thirty-one years after the creation of the Odontology School, Dr. Nelson founded, on May 22, 1944, in Recife, the Magitot Hospital, totally dedicated to Odontology, the first of its kind in South America.
