José Costa Leite was born in Sapé, in the state of Paraiba, on 27 July 1927.He is one of the most important and renowned engravers or woodcutters of Brazil, having a fine technique and very personal style.

One of the pioneers of Brazilian popular poetry, Silvino Pirauá de Lima was born in the town of Patos, Paraíba, in 1848. In 1898, because of drought, he moved to Recife, the capital of Pernambuco.
