The Sacaca Museum and Centre for Museological Studies is situated in the city of Macapá, the capital of the State of Amapá, in the North region of Brazil.

The institution is named in honour of a local healer, Raimundo dos Santos Souza, or ‘Sacaca’, who carried out important work in natural medicine for the state’s population.

Inaugurated in 2002, the museum’s mission is to provide museological work in research, preservation and communication, interacting scientific knowledge with the traditional knowledge of Amazonian peoples.

An alternative centre in the development of information on possible technological advances to apply in the search for bettering the quality of life, the museum transmits to the community the work carried out by the Amapá Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (IEPA).

The Sacaca Museum is situated in a twenty-thousand square metre area, offering the visitor the opportunity to experience the different realities of the traditional Amazon communities, including the Maracá archaeological site, the riparian house, the cashew farmers’ house, the Marabaixo monument, the flour mill, the Waiãpi house, the ethnicities park and the Sacaca square.
